Senior Projects Demo Day with Citrea

Citrea has been mentoring university students with their senior projects. About 7 months ago, we partnered with leading universities in Turkey to onboard young minds to Bitcoin and ZK.

6 teams presented their senior projects in February. From ZK research to very niche Bitcoin applications, they had very interesting projects. Some teams were even interested in pursuing their projects upon graduation!

Demo Day Agenda & Projects

The Main Squeeze: Developers are coming to Bitcoin, and Citrea is here to help.

New Integrations with Citrea

Our February integration efforts were focused heavily on Zero Knowledge (ZK). Although Citrea primarily uses ZK for scalability, privacy remains very close to our hearts. This month, Citrea integrated with Encifher to bring privacy to Bitcoin users. Encifher’s intuitive interface lets users send BTC privately via Telegram, and their payment bot is now live on Citrea.

Another exciting ZK integration happened on the infrastructure front. Citrea has long leveraged RiscZero for its proving mechanism, and we’ve now joined Boundless, built by RiscZero, to gain access to their prover marketplace. This makes ZK more affordable, accessible, and secure for everyone.

The Main Squeeze: ZK is arriving at Bitcoin in full force.

Painting ETHDenver Orange

Orange was the color of the month in Denver! We connected with a lot of Bitcoiners, spoke at 8 events, hosted a developer meetup and sponsored a hacker house.

At the Async house by Nil Foundation, Citrea DevRel engineer Talip Akalin gave a comprehensive talk covering Bitcoin scalability landscape, the role of ZK, Citrea's approach and how the current ZK scalability constructions on Bitcoin can improve. Find Talip's talk here.

BitVM Alliance Summit was an exclusive technical event hosted by the alliance teams. BitVM alliance was formed about 6 months ago to build the foundations of trust-minimized Bitcoin bridges. The Alliance teams discussed bridge economics, auditing and Bitcoin light client designs.

BitVM Alliance Summit

We spoke at The Official BTC Mini Summit and Bitcoin Renaissance. We focused on the role of ZK in bringing programmability to Bitcoin and dove deeper into BitVM at the Bitcoin Renaissance. The key takeaway was that Citrea is almost ready. We just need to integrate everything with our Bitcoin light client design.

Connecting with builders is always rewarding. We sponsored Avail's Unification House to let hackers get creative with building appchains on Citrea using Avail DA. The winning project was a proprietary AI marketplace on with encrypted model data on Avail DA.

In the final days of ETHDenver, our full focus remained on ZK and Bitcoin. Talip Akalin participated in several ZK panels addressing privacy, scalability, and Bitcoin.

The highlight of ETHDenver was our developer meetup at Denver’s Bitcoin hub, "The Space." We engaged deeply with local Bitcoiners and demonstrated the significant opportunities for building on Bitcoin. The consensus was clear: We all want ₿apps!

Citrea Developer Meetup

The Main Squeeze: Developers and Bitcoiners both agree: ₿apps are essential!

Alpha for Next Month

March has exciting things in store! We’ve hinted at Citrea-native applications, our Bitcoin-native bridge "Clementine," and more ₿apps. Expect to see substantial progress on all these fronts soon. Here’s a sneak peek:

  • A lazy integration 🦥.
  • Citrea Origins Hacker House in Istanbul.
  • The first fraud proof of a zk proof in a single transaction on Bitcoin Testnet.
