The Citrea Recap — December
Welcome to The Citrea Recap, the only newsletter covering everything Citrea.
Let's welcome 2025 by recapping the last bit of 2024! December was packed with product updates and new community incentives. Citrea believers are starting to see the benefits of being part of this growing community. As we approach mainnet, more opportunities will emerge for those committed to Citrea’s vision.
Notably, we also announced Kumquat, an upcoming fork that will be a significant improvement to the Citrea Testnet. If you haven’t already, sign up for The Citrea Recap to stay updated.
Here’s what we’ll be covering today:
- New Community Incentives in Citrea Discord
- Citrea Ecosystem Growth
- Treasury Allocation of Chainway Labs (Initial Contributor to Citrea)
- Kumquat, First-Ever Fork on Citrea, is Coming!
- Alpha for Next Month
New Community Incentives in Citrea Discord
As we gear up for mainnet, we've introduced a more structured discord incentive system to appreciate the true believers of Citrea and Bitcoin. We've rolled out a new ranking system and a Discord server credit called 'Citrea Moments' to easily identify and appreciate our vocal supporters.
There are now so many ways to contribute to Citrea. As you contribute, you'll climb in ranks and collect Citrea Moments. Once you achieve a certain rank, you can redeem your moments for various things, including getting an OG role.
As for the significance of the OG role and Citrus Champions (the best of the bests), you will experience opportunities of Citrea's flourishing ecosystem firsthand. We’re committed to maintaining a high-quality community, so we’ll continue to identify true believers and apply regular purges to keep our standards high.
The Main Squeeze: We value true believers, and the opportunities to be involved in Citrea are only increasing!
Citrea Ecosystem Growth
While, behind the scenes, we are helping with the launch of Citrea native applications, the integrations of existing projects continue. In December, we've added two more projects to Citrea ecosystem.
Garden Finance recently joined to Citrea ecosystem to offer atomic swaps between Bitcoin and Citrea. Atomic swaps will play an important role for Citrea's adoption as our BitVM bridge Clementine requires a fixed large amount of BTC. With atomic swaps, users can bridge any BTC amount between Bitcoin and Citrea in a trustless, peer-to-peer manner. Currently, this feature is available to OGs, Citrus Champions, and full Devnet Expert NFT holders.
The second integration came from Protofire team who is a Safe partner. They deployed the Safe{Wallet} which allows users to have more choices for their custody needs and set spending rules for their assets with smart contract wallets.
The Main Squeeze: Citrea's ecosystem is on a steady growth and only the true believers will experience some of the opportunities.
Treasury Allocation of Chainway Labs (Initial Contributor to Citrea)
In December, we showed our commitment to Bitcoin once again. We announced an important decision made by the initial contributor company to Citrea, Chainway Labs.
The company has implemented a treasury strategy of allocating a portion of its treasury to BTC purchases. This decision underscored the company's mission of building a Bitcoin-backed economy, merging technical and financial vision together. The company will continue to evaluate its treasury strategy to ensure it aligns with its operational needs and broader objectives.
The Main Squeeze: We're technically and financially aligned with scaling Bitcoin and its native asset, BTC!
Kumquat, First Ever Fork on Citrea, is Coming!
Technical progress never stops at Citrea. We recently announced our upcoming fork named Kumquat. This will be the first-ever fork on Citrea!
Kumquat brings many improvements to the Citrea prover, allowing fake receipts to test the full proving, applying upgrades to make the prover 3x faster, bringing cheaper and more efficient proofs by simplifying operations and removing redundant checks.
Kumquat also brings light client proofs and recursion which make Citrea easily verifiable from ANY device. While these proofs are very important from the principle of 'Don't Trust, Verify', they are also integral to our BitVM bridge, Clementine. In addition to light client proofs, Kumquat improves the way Citrea uses Bitcoin as data availability with off-chain contracts. There are many more benefits of the Kumquat fork. Find the dedicated article here.
Kumquat fork is expected to arrive on testnet within the next 7-10 days.
The Main Squeeze: The Citrea Testnet is becoming cheaper, more robust, and easily verifiable!
